🎨 Parents:The only tools you need to use these how-to-draw tutorials are: an eraser, a pencil, and a piece of paper. But – if you have them around – a sketching pencil makes for fainter and softer lines that help kids build fine motor accuracy. I also recommend going over the sketch pencil with a black outline marker when you're done for a neater finish. Lastly, erase the pencil marks before adding color.

Easy Step By Step Drawing Guide: Leopard Cub

A Step-by-Step Guide on How To Draw A Leopard

  1. Draw a facial outline of the leopard – a circular face with two small circular ears-to-be on each side on top of the face.
  2. Draw the details on the leopard's face with two inner circular ears, a big circular mouth-to-be, and two long oval-shaped eyes parallel to each other on top of the mouth.
  3. Let's complete the details for the mouth. Inside the big circle, draw an inverted curved line on top, forming the nose with two curved lines below it separating its way below for the mouth line. Then, draw two short horizontal whiskers on each side, overlapping the whole mouth area.
  4. Now for the leopard's body, draw an irregular curved shape connected to its head. Imagine a banana. The body looks like an inverted banana with a short stem on its right end, forming two legs and the body.
  5. Draw another short oval-shaped leg beneath the neck and the front foot and a long curved line beneath the back foot, completing the set of four feet.
  6. Complete all the details with an s-shaped tail pointing upwards on the top end of the body. Then, draw three small circular marks on top of the head, another three on the body's back, three small semi-circles and three horizontal lines on the tail, and a short, tiny curved line inside the body, forming the leopard's stomach.
  7. Now we can finally color our leopard with a pale yellow body, bright yellowish eyes, gray inner ears, nose, and circular marks, and white stomach and mouth area.

Leopard Fun Facts for Kids

  • Leopard tails are good for balance and are almost as long as their body.
  • Leopards are smaller than lions, tigers, and jaguars. They are the smallest of the 4 big cats. They're the best jumpers!
  • Leopards rest in the daytime and they hunt at night, they are nocturnal.
  • Leopards prefer to be alone, they don't like companions and they don't travel or hunt in groups like lions in packs and prides.
  • Leopards live in the forest hiding them whereas lions live out in the open (and that's why lions don't have any camouflage spots.)
  • Leopards have golden fur and the spots that look like patterned dots are called rosettes. Their coat camouflages perfectly with their surroundings. As they move they imitate the way the sunlight hits plants and vegetables in the surrounding.
  • Leopards have adaptable diets (they're not picky eaters.) They are ambush hunters, also called "sit-and-wait."
